The MacBook battery replacement cost in India, as of 2026, typically runs approximately Rs 4,500–9,500 for a MacBook Air and Rs 6,000–13,000 for a 13-inch MacBook Pro at independent repair centres, with 14-inch and 16-inch Apple silicon Pros costing more. Apple's own service price depends on your serial number, AppleCare coverage and whether the job needs a full top-case swap.
That range is wide for a reason. A MacBook battery is not one standard part: an M1 MacBook Air, a 2019 Touch Bar MacBook Pro and a 16-inch M3 Pro use different packs, different adhesives and, on some Intel models, a completely different repair procedure. This guide breaks the cost down model by model, explains why Apple's quote and a local quote can differ so much, and shows how to check battery health yourself before paying anyone.
The table below gives indicative independent-market ranges across Indian metros and tier-2 cities such as Indore for a quality replacement pack fitted with new adhesive. They are approximate, change with the rupee and part supply, and exclude GST where a shop bills it separately. Always get the price confirmed against your exact model number (the "A" number printed on the underside of the base).

| MacBook Pro 13" M1 / M2 | A2338 | ~58.2 Wh | Rs 6,500 – 10,500 | 2–4 hours |

| MacBook Pro 15"/16" Intel (2016–2019) | A1707, A1990, A2141 | ~76–100 Wh | Rs 7,500 – 13,000 | Half day (glued to top case) |
| MacBook Pro 16" (M1 Pro onwards) | A2485, A2780, A2991 | ~100 Wh | Rs 11,000 – 20,000 | Half day |
Two things stand out. First, Apple silicon machines cost more than the Intel machines they replaced, mostly because the packs are newer, higher-capacity and less widely stocked. Second, the fitting time varies more than the part price — and fitting time is where a careless shop does damage. If you are in Indore and want a model-specific figure before handing the machine over, our MacBook repair in Indore page explains how the diagnosis-first quote works, with free doorstep pickup across the city.
Owners who get a quote at an Apple Store and then at a local shop are often surprised. The gap is rarely just "brand tax"; it comes from how Apple services each design.
On the 2016–2020 Intel MacBook Pro models, the battery cells are glued directly to the top case — the aluminium deck that also holds the keyboard and, on Touch Bar models, the Touch Bar. Apple's standard service swaps the entire top case assembly, so you effectively pay for a new keyboard deck along with the battery. An independent technician can instead remove the old cells with adhesive solvent and heat, then fit a cell-only pack. That is cheaper, but it is skilled work: prying too hard can puncture a lithium-ion polymer cell or bend the deck.
The M1, M2 and M3 MacBook Air and the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro use stretch-release adhesive strips or pull tabs, which makes a cell-level swap more controlled. Here the price difference is mostly part sourcing and labour rates rather than design. If your machine is still covered by AppleCare+ and battery capacity has dropped below Apple's threshold, the authorised route is usually the right call — check coverage first.
| Factor | Apple / Apple Authorised Service Provider | Independent specialist |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Set per model and coverage status; confirm with Apple Support | Usually lower; varies by part grade |
| Part | Genuine Apple battery | Ask: original pull, OEM-grade or compatible cell |
| Intel Retina Pros | Full top case (incl. keyboard) replaced | Cell-only replacement on the existing deck |
| macOS "Battery Health" readout | Reads normally | May show a "service" notice or unknown-part message on some newer models |
| Turnaround | Same day to several days; can ship to a depot | Often same day in Indore once the part is in stock |
| Data | Back up first; usually untouched | Back up first; usually untouched |
The honest summary: in warranty or under AppleCare+, go to Apple. Out of warranty on an Intel Retina Pro, the independent cell-only route can save a meaningful sum. Out of warranty on an Apple silicon machine, compare both quotes; the gap is smaller, and the genuine part keeps the health readout clean.
Do this before you accept any MacBook battery replacement cost, because a slow charger, a faulty USB-C port or a background process draining power can all mimic a dead battery.
| What you see | Likely meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Under 500 cycles, "Normal", but drains fast | Software or background process, not the pack | Check Activity Monitor → Energy before replacing anything |
| 900–1,000+ cycles, capacity around or below 80% | Normal end of life | Plan a replacement; no emergency |
| "Service Recommended" at low cycle count | Faulty cell or calibration issue | If in warranty, go to Apple; otherwise get a diagnosis |
| Trackpad stiff or case lifting | Swollen battery | Stop charging and using it; replace promptly |
| Shuts down at 20–40% charge | Weak cell under load | Replace; also check the charger and port |
A swollen battery is the single biggest reason a Rs 6,000 job becomes a Rs 15,000–20,000 one. As the cells expand they press on the trackpad from below, crack the trackpad's click mechanism, lift the keyboard and can push against the logic board. In humid Indian summers and in machines left permanently on charge at 100%, swelling is common after three or four years.
If you see swelling, shut the MacBook down, unplug it, and do not try to prise the battery out at home — a punctured lithium-ion polymer cell can vent or catch fire. A technician will check whether the trackpad, keyboard or display hinge area has been damaged and will quote those separately. Catching it early usually means you pay only for the battery.
Whether you pay Apple or an independent shop, a correct job looks like this:

Most of the price spread inside each model band comes from part grade. Genuine Apple batteries sold through authorised service are the benchmark. Independent shops typically offer three grades: an original pull or genuine-spec pack where available, an OEM-grade pack built to the same capacity with good-quality cells, and cheaper "compatible" packs. The cheapest packs often overstate capacity, age faster and are more likely to swell early. For a machine you plan to keep for two or three more years, paying Rs 1,500–2,500 extra for a better pack is usually worth it. Ask the shop to write the part grade and warranty on the job sheet.
A useful rule: replacement makes sense when the battery cost is well under half of the machine's current resale value and the rest of the MacBook is healthy. Apple silicon machines are the clearest case — an Apple M1 MacBook Air from late 2020 remains fast for everyday work, so a new battery can buy several more years. An older Intel Air may still be worth a battery if it runs the macOS version you need; if not, the money may be better spent towards a newer machine. When the battery is only one of several faults (swelling plus liquid damage plus a failing keyboard), get a combined quote before deciding.
Treat every figure in this guide as an approximate 2026 market reference. Prices move with part supply, and your exact model number decides the final quote.
